Minecraft

This page is dedicated to the Minecraft projects of this course. Here, you will find info on how to proceed with the projects.

April 28th: Screenshot or didn't happen
So, it has been a couple of weeks of building. What have you come up with?

Your next assignment tasks you with writing a blog post in which you report what you have built yourself. Write a short 50-100 word post about what you've been building, accompanied by at least one picture or video of your accomplishments.

How to "take a picture" in Minecraft (or anywhere else on computer):

  1. Set up the picture. In Minecraft, get to the place you want to photograph. (You can hide user-interface by pressing F1 if you want to)
  2. Take the picture. Press "PrtScn" on your keyboard (located usually above "delete", "home" and "page up")
  3. Save the picture. Open a picture software (for example Paint) and paste the image there by pressing Ctrl+V or right click and select paste. Save the picture and note where you saved it.
  4. Post the picture. Write your blog post and add the image by pressing the image button on edit row up there /\

If you have problems ask me in the comments or other students in the game.

P.S. Kudos on the Berlin wall, amazing stuff.
P.P.S. Speak English in the game, too much Finnish so far!

April 8th:
Begin planning the First project: What are we going to build?

For this week, the tutorial world we played during the first class will remain open, so feel free to go and practice if you didn't do so yet!

Next, it's time for you to tell us what to do. Post here, on this page, your ideas on what to build. I've posted some videos below for inspiration, but it can be something totally different.

Then, during the weekend, I'll add a poll to this page. Come and vote for your favorite idea before Monday.

Facts:
  • By Monday, April 15th, post your idea for the next project here on this page's comments.
  • By Wednesday, April 17th, vote on the project you would like to execute (poll on this page)
Here are some ideas to get you started:

  1. I think that Aquila might be what we are going to build. It is quite big but we have so many players in this course so it does not take a lot of time to build this.

    1. Awesome, good to hear you don't shy away from challenges! How about the others, do you think you can tackle a big project?

  2. I was thinking of something more unique and new. Something we design ourselves and not build based on a ready model. How about a city, where everyone build his/her own house, hotel, bank, or anything, that you might find in a city. The city could be modern and could be based on a real city.

  3. Our team also wants to build a city of our own but we taught it could be something more special, like a floating city in the sky or even underwater city and it can be entered with one big elevator etc. And like Niko told previously everyone could build something unique and own. It is very boring to build a identical project from a ready model...

  4. Dear All,
if you read the post carefully, it says "I've posted some videos below for inspiration", not for copying :)

So like Niko and Tukee wrote, I hope you end up with something unique. You can of course use these as a model if you so decide.

I've extended the deadline for the ideas a bit since there was some confusion. Hopefully you get your ideas here today, and I'll post a poll tomorrow!
